United Way of Lee County and United Way of Ogle County are bringing volunteers and local
organizations together this September for Day of Caring, a community-wide volunteer event
designed to connect people who want to give back with local nonprofits and organizations that
need a helping hand.
Day of Caring provides an opportunity for local businesses, community members and volunteers
to work together on hands-on projects that make a difference in the communities they call
home.
Day of Caring in Ogle County
Friday, September 18 | 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
United Way of Ogle County is currently looking for both volunteer teams and local nonprofits or
organizations with projects that could benefit from a team of helping hands.
Day of Caring in Lee County
Saturday, September 19 | 9:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.
United Way of Lee County is also seeking businesses, community groups and individuals to
form volunteer teams, as well as local nonprofits and organizations to submit projects for
volunteers to complete.
Projects can be as simple or as hands-on as needed. Examples include painting, landscaping,
cleaning, organizing, filing, facility projects, yard work and other tasks that organizations have
been wanting to tackle but may not have had the time or resources to complete.
Volunteer teams will be matched with a local organization and will spend the morning working
alongside staff or volunteers at the project site. Projects are designed to be completed in three
hours or less, and organizations will provide the materials and someone to help lead the
volunteer team.
“Day of Caring is about more than completing a project—it’s about bringing people together,”
said Ashley Richter, Executive Director. “It gives local businesses and community members a
chance to experience firsthand the incredible work being done by organizations in our
communities, while giving those organizations an extra set of hands to accomplish something
meaningful.”
Businesses and community groups interested in forming a volunteer team are encouraged to
participate. Teams can be between 2-8 people and made up of coworkers, friends, families or
community members.
Nonprofits and community organizations interested in submitting a project are also encouraged
to participate and identify a project their volunteer team could help complete.
